There is plenty to do in and around Prince Albert. From star-gazing to golf; from mountain biking to wine tasting there is something for everyone. We have listed a wide variety of activities below. 4 X 4 Trails 

Located in the Swartberg Nature Reserve, the challenging 4 x 4 route offers you a chance to see the rugged landscape of the area.

 

Albert’s Mill

Restoration project of the local mill.

 

Architecture

Beautifully preserved Cape Dutch, Karoo and Victorian buildings, as well as the Dutch Reformed Church.

 

Art Gallery

Take time out to study the works of multiple artists, both local and further afield.

 

Astronomy

As well as being a beautiful place by day, the night skies in the Karoo are considered some of the best in the world and within the garden is the observatory housing the latest in telescope technology. All this is available to guests with prior notice and if you would like to see a demonstration of the equipment we can organise a night of stargazing; hosted by our semi-resident astronomer who will expertly reveal to you the wonders of the southern hemisphere.

 

Bird Watching

The local area is a paradise for bird watching.

 

Dairy Tours

Sample the local dairy’s delicious cheeses, yoghurts, milk and cream.

 

Scenic Drives 

Explore the many natural wonders of this very unique region of South Africa. The Cango Caves, Swartberg National Park, Meiringspoort and Karoo National Park to name a few.

Festivals

Prince Albert Town & Olive Festival

 

Farms

Olives, figs, apricots and prunes are all cultivated in the fertile soil of Prince Albert. Visit olive farms where you can sample and buy olives and olive oil made locally.

 

Fossils

The fascinating world of fossils is explained along the fossil trail at the Karoo National Park and at some of the museums in the area.

 

Golf

For the golf fan, there is an 18 hole golf course. No charge for the magnificent views of the Karoo landscape.

 

Hiking

Prince Albert is perfect for hiking and mountaineering, both day and overnight.

 

Markets

Visit the main market held every Saturday morning to [pick up local delicacies; from Karoo Lamb to fruit and vegetables; cheeses; home-made jams and preserves; home baked bread and pickles.

 

Museum

Learn about the cultural and historical past at the Fransie Pienaar Museum.

 

Mountain Biking

Many opportunities to go off road or stay on the main tracks in and around the town.

 

Wool Weaving

Local wool weavery available to visit. Watch the experts produce items made from the highest quality 100% wool.
